CASE #: 2024-3129
On June 22, 2024, The Gage County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were working traffic on north US HWY 77 near Birch Rd. A Gage County Deputy observed a group of Five Motorcycles traveling south from Birch Road. The Motorcycles were passing traffic at a high rate of speed. The Gage County Deputy using his traffic moving radar received a clock of 127 mph on the lead Motorcycle. The Deputy allowed the group to pass his location and again clocked the group of Motorcycles at 123 mph.
Traffic was very heavy with many events in the area with Homestead days etc. The Deputy radioed ahead and asked for the assistance of the Beatrice Police Department to head north to assist in a possible intercept. The Gage County Deputy was able to negotiate his marked patrol vehicle behind the group of motorcycles near West Hickory Road where the motorcycles were still traveling in excess of 100 mph.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office did not want to engage the motorcycles in the event that they fled at a high rate of speed. As the Beatrice Police set up in the Median near the Beatrice Hospital the Gage County Deputy closed on the group of motorcycles. With a coordinated effort the Beatrice Police Department placed their emergency vehicle lights in operation and the motorcycles began to slow. The Gage County Deputy then placed its emergency lights and siren in operation causing the motorcycles to slow and stop on the south bound shoulder.
