Fatality Accident

LOCATION: W. Chestnut Rd. / SW 86^th Rd. – SW 100^th Rd.                                         

OFFENSE: Fatality Accident

On Thursday November 23, 2023 at 8:40 AM the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report, regarding Librado Lopez, III, age 40 of Cortland, NE, who did not come home the night before.  Family members began searching for Lopez and soon located Lopez inside of his crashed vehicle down in a creek embankment along W. Chestnut Rd. in-between SW 100^th Rd. and SW 86^th Rd.  Dewitt Fire and Rescue personnel responded and pronounced Lopez deceased. 

Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded, along with the Nebraska State Patrol.  The accident investigation determined that Lopez had been traveling east on W. Chestnut Rd. when his vehicle went off the north side of the road and collided with a creek embankment.  It is not believed that Lopez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.  The accident remains under investigation.
