Package Scam Cortland

DETAILS:           

A resident of Cortland states she had received dozens of emails and text messages stating a package is to be delivered to her home, but they need additional information.  The victim stated she has not provided any information to the suspects and has not lost any money.

 This type of scam wants you to click on a “link” and /or provide them with additional information.  Once they have you respond, they can obtain personal, financial, or confidential information and proceed to commit identity theft with your identity.  If they can, they will attempt to have you send them money or have you grant them access to your computer, smartphone, or financial accounts.

If you receive this type of contact, do not engage with the suspects.  Block them, or if you are unsure if it is a scam, speak with a trusted person, such as a spouse, relative, banker, or call law enforcement and ask to speak with a deputy or police officer.
