Car Catches Fire on West Hickory Road Near Homestead Trail August 26,2024

DETAILS:          

 The Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a car on fire on West Hickory Road, between Highway 77 and South 1^st Road on Monday, August 26, 2024 at approximately 2:09 pm.

The deputy investigating the incident was advised by Southeast Communications that the driver of the vehicle had left the scene and was heading to Beatrice Community Hospital for a scheduled medical appointment.

The Beatrice Rural Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the car fire, as well as a small grass fire that had ignited in the field just east of the vehicle’s location.

After speaking with the firefighters at the scene, the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and informed of the incident.  It was determined the cause of the vehicle fire was probably a mechanical issue and the vehicle was towed from the roadway.

There were no injuries to the driver or his juvenile passengers.
