Two Vehicle Injury Accident

On July 8th, 2021, at 2046 hrs, Members of the Cortland Fire & Recuse, Clatonia Fire & Rescue, Pickrell Fire & QRT, Beatrice Fire & Rescue, Star Care, Nebraska State Patrol, and Deputies from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle injury accident. The accident occurred on Highway 77 south of Buckeye Road; with an entrapment reported.  

A 2003 Buick CX driven by Rebecca Snyder, a 47-year-old female of Fairbury, was traveling northbound on Highway 77.  Snyder left the roadway to the east, driving on the shoulder, before coming back onto the roadway. Then left the roadway to the west crossing the median and going into southbound lanes of travel, before hitting a 2014 Honda CR-V driven by Jill Petersen, a 56-year-old female of Fairbury. Airbags in both vehicles were deployed.

Peterson was transported to Byran West by Clatonia Rescue with non-life-threatening injuries.  Snyder was transported to Byran West by Star Care with life-threatening injuries. 

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident. This accident is still under investigation by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 77, southbound from Buckeye, was closed for approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes.  Highway 77 northbound north of Cedar Road was closed for approximately 1 hour due to this accident.
