Two Vehicle Fatality Accident

DATE: Wednesday, May 16, 2018 @ 1350 hours        

LOCATION: U.S. Highway 77 / W. Lilac Road

OFFENSE: Two Vehicle Fatality Accident

CASE: 2018-2244            

On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at approximately 13:50 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Beatrice Rural Fire and Beatrice Rescue where dispatched to a two-vehicle injury accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and W. Lilac Road.

The accident investigation revealed, a 2005 Ford Escape driven by Shawn Vraspir (18) of Beatrice was traveling westbound on W. Lilac Road when he ran the stop sign at U.S. Highway 77. Vraspir’s vehicle was struck in the intersection by a northbound 2009 Ford F150 driven by Sadie Saunders (47) of Topeka, Kansas. After the collision, Vraspir’s vehicle came to rest after hitting a house at 1852 W. Lilac Road, while Saunders’ vehicle came to rest in the west ditch of Highway 77.

Vraspir was pronounced dead at the scene, and Saunders was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Restraints where in use. Both passenger and driver side airbags deployed in both vehicle. It has yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation.
