DATE & TIME: 10-12-2023 / 4:01 pm

LOCATION: (Rural) Pickrell, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Social Security Scam

CASE #: 2023-5129

A resident of rural Pickrell, Nebraska called the sheriff’s office on Thursday, October 12, 2023 to report a scam phone call.  He states he received a phone call that showed the number calling him as “unavailable” and the suspect on the phone advised him he was from the Social Security Administration and that he needed the last four numbers of his social security number.

When the victim refused to provide it, the suspect told him he was going to send the sheriff’s office to his home “in 15 days” unless he complied.  The victim had been at a training on Human Trafficking earlier that morning at work and he had met an investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at that training, so he called the sheriff’s office himself to report the scam.  He did not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information and did not lose any money during this scam.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to be wary of the various types of scams and to not fall victim to pressure, blackmail, demands, or threats of arrest.  Do not make any payments or provide any type of personal, confidential, or financial information to suspects.  Hang up or stop communicating with them and contact a family member, close personal friend, or a financial advisor, such as a banker or accountant.

If you receive a suspicious call or a scam call, report the incident immediately to Southeast Communications at 402-223-5222 and they will have a deputy or investigator contact your or have an officer contact you if you live within the city limits of Wymore or Beatrice.
