A Beatrice resident called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report to an investigator that she had received two telephone calls from someone claiming they were with the IRS (United States Internal Revenue Service). She states they gave her a telephone number to call back to. She states she recognized this as a scam and did not call the person back or provide any personal, confidential, or financial information to them. She stated she just wanted to make law enforcement aware of the scam.
The IRS will not call a person and will not threaten them with arrest if they are not called back. Anyone who receives this type of call should not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information to the caller and should not call them back.
Anyone who receives this type of call or any type of attempt at fraudulent activity can call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator. If your call needs an immediate response, call Southeast Communications and request a uniformed deputy or officer come to your location.
