On Saturday, February 13, 2016 at approximately 0344 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle that had been involved in a rollover injury accident on West State Line Road just west of West State Highway 112. Deputies were unable to initially locate the driver since the vehicle had been abandoned. The driver was located at a residence in Lanham, Nebraska/Kansas approximately two hours after the vehicle was located.
Joseph A. Cox, 20 of rural Fairbury, Nebraska was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra. He was traveling westbound on West State Line Road just west of West Highway 112 at a high rate of speed. Cox lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason and entered the north ditch. The vehicle then rolled several times and came to a rest on its top approximately 1800 feet west of West State Highway 112 on West State Line Road.
The collision caused injuries to Cox which are believed to be minor and Cox did not seek medical attention.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in the accident. Seatbelts were not being utilized by the driver. Charges are pending and the accident is still under investigation.
