Injury Accident on Highway 77 1/2 mile South of Elm

LOCATION: Highway 77 1/2 mile South of Elm                              

OFFENSE: Injury Accident               

CASE #: 2016-2960               

On the above date and time, Gage County Deputies, Beatrice Fire and Rescue and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the above location, which is in front of the Homestead Plaza Truck Stop.

Doyle Archer, an 82 year old male from Logan, KS was driving a 2003 Peterbuilt Semi with a trailer.  Doyle was southbound on Highway 77 attempting to make a left turn into the truck stop.  Mary Stickney, a 55 year old female from Cortland, NE was northbound in the inside lane driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser.  Doyle stated he did not see Stickney’s vehicle when he made his turn. Stickney was unable to stop and avoid the collision.  Stickney received minor injuries from the accident, and Doyle was not injured. Highway 77 for northbound traffic was shut down for approximately 30 minutes.

The airbag was deployed in the PT Cruiser, seatbelts were in use, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Archer was issued a citation for Failure to Yield.
