A resident of rural Wymore reported a case of criminal impersonation (identity theft) to a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator. The victim had been notified his bank of several questionable transactions on his account, totaling nearly $9,000.00. The victim does not know how anyone obtained his financial information, but was assured by his bank he was not going to be liable for the charges.
The investigator confirmed he had not lost any money, then advised him to have the bank monitor his accounts and that he should monitor his mail for any fraudulent accounts that may have been opened in his name.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office encourages people to report incidents of fraud, theft, scams, or anything suspicious to their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
