Fatality Accident Hwy 77

OFFENSE:       One Vehicle Fatality Accident

CASE:            2020-5430   

    

On Friday, December 04, 2020 at approximately 16:30 hours, Gage County Deputies, along with Beatrice Fire, Pickrell Fire and QRT were dispatched to a one vehicle fatality accident ¼ mile south of the Pickrell Road on US Highway 77.

A preliminary accident investigation revealed that a northbound gray Chevrolet K2500 pickup, driven by 54-year-old Michael Oliver of Cortland, crossed through the median, both southbound lanes of traffic, through the west ditch, continuing northwest, coming to rest in a pasture.

Witnesses responded to the scene where they found Oliver unresponsive, but were unable to gain access to the truck.  Upon deputy’s arrival, they were able to gain access to the driver as rescue units arrived on scene.  Oliver was determined to be deceased at that time.

Next of kin and family were notified of death.

An autopsy was conducted on Saturday, 12-05-2020 and the pathologist and Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator determined the cause of death was not due to any injuries sustained in the accident.  Further investigation is being conducted.

The vehicle airbags did not deploy and seatbelts/restraints were not in use.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been a factor in the accident.
