Fatality Accident

DATE & TIME:  October 3, 2019 at 1850hrs

LOCATION: Highway 77 & Highway 8

OFFENSE: Fatality Accident

On October 3, 2019, at approximately 1850hrs, members with Wymore Fire & EMS, Blue Springs Fire, Beatrice Fire & Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Highway 77 & Highway 8. It was reported that one vehicle was on its side, and airbags had deployed in both vehicles. 

A gold 2005 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Alice Bryan, age 58 of Wymore, was northbound on Highway 77 approaching the Highway 8 intersection. A red 2015 Chevrolet Impala driven by Kay Farwell, age 78 of Du Bois, was southbound on Highway 77 approaching the Highway 8 intersection, then turned east in front of the Mercury. The Mercury struck the Impala in the intersection causing the Mercury to flip on its side and the Impala to spin clockwise an estimated 70 feet east on to Highway 8. 

Alice Bryan was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital with non-life threating injuries. The passenger of the Impala, Roy Farwell age 82 of Du Bois, was transported to Bryan West by Star Care Air Ambulance with life-threating injuries. Roy was later pronounced deceased at Bryan West.

Seat belts were in use in both vehicles. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Next of kin has been notified.
