Attempted Theft By Deception / IRS Scam "Officer John Anderson"

DATE & TIME: 11-17-2017 @ 11:00 am

LOCATION: Beatrice, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Attempted Theft By Deception / IRS Scam

CASE #: 2017-6362

A Beatrice resident notified an investigator with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office she received a telephone call from a male stating he was “Officer John Anderson” from the Social Security Administration and her social security number had been suspended, telling her to call back to a telephone number with a “512” area code. The resident was aware of various scam and fraud calls in the area and did not believe the person was actually with the Social Security Administration and did not provide any personal, confidential, or financial information.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator confirmed with the Beatrice resident she had not lost any money and advised her to monitor her bank and credit accounts. The information from the report was forwarded to investigators from the Beatrice Police Department for their records.

Anyone who believes they have been contacted, either by phone, through the mail, in person, or over the Internet, in an attempt to defraud them, should immediately call their local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
