On Friday, March 27, 2026, at approximately 11:29 PM the Gage Count Sheriff’s Office and the Beatrice Rual Fire Department were dispatched to West Juniper Road, just west of Southwest 89th Road for an open fire at a farm located on the north side of West Juniper Road.

The resident who had started the fire, 45-year-old Derek Hansher of rural Beatrice, was cited for violating the statewide open burn ban that had been in effect since March 13th, 2026.

Derek Hansher signed the citation and will have a court appearance in the Count Court of Gage in June.

The fire was extinguished and the fire department was notified of the citation.
