Two Vehicle Injury Accident @ Highway 77 & Locust Road

LOCATION: Highway 77 / Locust Road                              

OFFENSE: Injury Accident               

CASE #: 2016-3029               

On the above date and time, Gage County Deputies, and Beatrice Fire and Rescue responded to a two vehicle injury accident at the above location. 

Ronald Mazza, a 53 year old male from Beatrice, NE was driving a 2007 Jeep eastbound on Locust Road.  Mazza stopped at the stop sign at Highway 77.  Robert Day, a 25 year old male from David City, NE was southbound on Highway 77.  Day had two passengers in his vehicle, his wife Michelle, and an infant son.  Day stated he observed Mazza stop at the stop sign and then pull out in front of him in an attempt to turn left onto Highway 77.  Day stated he was unable to avoid the collision. 

Mazza was transported via ambulance to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln for his injuries.  Michelle Day was transported via ambulance to Beatrice Community Hospital for her injuries.

The adults were wearing seat belts and the infant was in a car seat. Front airbags were deployed in both vehicles. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.  Mazza will be cited for Failure to Yield. 

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank employees of L-Con Inc., who were working nearby at Northern Natural Gas, for assisting in traffic control during the accident investigation.
