OFFENSE: Grass Fire/ Assist Other Agency
CASE #: 2024-2859

DETAILS: On Friday, June 7th, 2024, at approximately 2:23pm, deputies were dispatched to assist the Beatrice Rural Fire Department, which had been dispatched to a grass fire near Southwest 89th Road between West Lilac Road and Highway 136.
The fire was extinguished quickly, and the deputy dispatched to assist was able to determine the fire was ignited by juveniles who were in a swimming pool at a nearby residence and saw some ground squirrels outside the pool. The juveniles decided to shoot “Roman Candle” fireworks at the ground squirrels, but once the ignited star that was discharged from the Roman Candle hit the field, a grass fire started.
There were no injuries, minimal damage was done to the field, and there was no other property damage reported. The juveniles were admonished, and the parents were going to handle any disciplinary matters with the juveniles.
