A resident of rural Filley, Nebraska contacted the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and reported she had received a phone call with an automated message advising her that her social security number had been compromised and for her to push “1” on her phone to rectify the situation. She had read in the media and on the sheriff’s office website about scams and was alert enough to not fall victim to this “phishing” call. She stated the suspects did not use her name or other information, but were relying on her to press the number on her phone to be transferred. She states she has not lost any money.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to use caution and be wary of the various types of scams and fraud being attempted. It is recommended that if you do not recognize the phone number, do not answer and let them leave a message. If you feel you have been a victim of a scam or fraud, contact your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
