A resident of rural Pickrell, Nebraska notified a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator she had received a telephone call and automated voice message from 872-901-8318, which showed up on her caller ID as “JamesRings”, where the suspect stated the call was from the social security administration and suspicious activity had been found in conjunction with her social security number. She was told to call back or her social security benefits would be suspended. The Pickrell resident, however, was well aware of this type of scam and did not call back or provide any personal, confidential, or financial information to the suspects.
If you receive a call and suspect it is a scam, do not provide any information. Hang up and contact a trusted family member or close friend for assistance. The information can also be reported to your local police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator.
