LOCATION: Adams, Nebraska
OFFENSE: Computer Scam
CASE #: 2025-0703
DETAILS:
A resident of rural Adams, Nebraska had her computer “hacked” and during this process she was instructed to go to her bank and withdraw $25,000.00 to send to them. The victim went to the First State Bank in Filley, Nebraska, to retrieve the money, but when she spoke with the Customer Service Representative from the bank, it became apparent this was a scam.
The bank took precautions to secure her financial accounts and also recommended she take her electronic devices to a service dealer to have anti-virus software updated.
Fortunately, the victim did not lose any money and subsequently reported the incident to an investigator at the sheriff’s office.
It is certain that if you receive any type of communication from someone you do not know and they want money, especially if it is claimed it is urgent, or to keep it secret, or to not hang up the phone otherwise dire consequences will happen, that you are being scammed.
Immediately break communication with any suspects and contact your bank, a trusted friend or relative, or call law enforcement to confirm the circumstances and that it is a fraud or a scam.
