Scam / Fake Credit Card

A resident of Beatrice received a phone call from a restricted number on Thursday, October 6, 2022 and the caller stated he was with the “Gage County Court” and for her to call 866-353-0048 regarding case number “NE146016”.   The suspect had quite a bit of personal and confidential information about the victim, including her social security number.

When she called the number, she was given, the suspect asked for her case number then waited several minutes to “call up her case” and said she owed $1,900.00 for a credit card.  She advised the suspect she did not have any credit cards and the suspect hung up.  The victim then called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office cautions people that scams take many forms and to never succumb to demands for payment or provide financial or other personal information to unknown people.  If you receive one of these types of phone calls, hang up.  Also, use caution and discretion in online contacts, mail received, or personal interactions.

Call your local law enforcement agency to report a scam or fraud or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak with an investigator or an on-duty deputy.
