A gray 2013 Ford pickup, driven by 48-year-old James Barnaba of rural Beatrice, collided with a white 2007 Freightliner semi-tractor truck and grain trailer, striking the “belly dump” area of the trailer when Barnaba passed on the left when the semi-tractor slowed to turn left from northbound South 94thRoad onto westbound East Lilac Road. Barnaba said visibility on the roadway was limited by dust stirred up by the semi and he thought the truck was pulling over to let him pass.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and no injuries were reported by either driver. Damage to each vehicle is estimated to be $3,500.00. Neither alcohol nor speed are considered a factor in the accident. A citation for improper passing will be issued to James Barnaba by a Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigator.
