DETAILS:

Deputies arrested 40-year-old David Barrett of Beatrice for numerous crimes committed over the course of a twelve-hour period starting about midnight on 12-29-2025 and ending at about 12:50 pm on December 29^th, 2025.

Night shift deputies assisted with searching for a car stolen out of Beatrice. The suspect then shoplifted some items from the Casey’s in Wymore at about 6:34 am. The same suspect then entered a residence in rural Wymore 15 minutes later, refusing to leave for several minutes. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or suspect.

At about 12:34 pm, the suspect stole a vehicle from a residence south of Virginia, then 9 minutes later entered the Farmer’s Cooperative in Virginia and began stealing items from the office. An alert employee called 911 and the first deputy to arrive on scene took David Barrett into custody at the scene for the several crimes committed in the county.

The employee at Farmer’s Cooperative was not injured and all items that had been reported stolen were recovered by deputies and investigators at the scene.

Barrett was taken to the Gage County Detention Center where he was booked into the jail
