Criminal Investigation
The Investigator for the Gage County Sheriff’s Office has a wide range of responsibilities and is trained in several different areas to assist the office. Some of the duties include investigating reported crimes and any suspected criminal activity. The Investigator is also responsible in the processing of larger crime scenes. It is the responsibility of the Investigator to obtain and verify evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses or by analyzing records. It is also the responsibility of the Investigator to investigate Homicides, Burglaries, Sex Crimes, Robberies, Felony Thefts, Scams and Frauds.
The Investigator gathers and disseminates information regarding any criminal activity. The Investigator also attends several intel meetings a month with several different agencies. This has proven to be very beneficial for all agencies involved.
It is also the duty of the Investigator to serve as the Crime Stoppers representative for the Sheriff’s Office. The Investigator is also well-trained in several different areas. This is accomplished by numerous hours of training by either attending classes or by reading literature. In today’s criminal justice system, things are changing every day and it is up to the Investigator to keep up on these changes which helps in completing an investigation of any nature.
Drug Investigation
The Drug Investigator conducts investigations involving the illegal use and distribution of controlled substances. The Drug Investigator also assists road patrol deputies with street-level drug investigations and arrests. Since illegal drug use is at the heart of so much crime, the Drug Investigator is also heavily involved in other types of investigations including property crimes, weapons, gangs, etc. The Drug Investigator is a certified Drug Recognition Expert and, as a result, is also involved in may DUI-Drug investigations. Finally, the Drug Investigator provides training to other deputies and community groups on topics related to illegal drug use.
Road Division
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office currently has seventeen certified deputies including the sheriff. These deputies are charged with the patrolling of Gage County and the handling of the daily calls for service. These calls include burglaries, assaults, domestic disturbances, sexual assaults, arson, thefts, etc. It also includes active patrolling of the county, traffic stops, building checks of area businesses, and ensuring public safety.

Special Operations Group
The Gage County Special Operations Group is a tactical unit formed in the mid 1980’s to respond to high-risk incidents. The unit consists of Gage County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The SOG is tasked with resolving hostage situations, barricaded subjects, the service of high-risk search and arrest warrants, or any incident requiring high-risk police tactics. Team members conduct and participate in-house and outside training in order to provide ongoing tactical training.
The mission of the Gage County Special Operations Group (SOG) is to provide a high level of law enforcement service to the citizens of Gage County during high risk incidents. The team is comprised of deputy sheriffs that are highly motivated, highly trained, disciplined individuals that are dedicated to their profession.
The goal of the team is to safely and effectively resolve high risk incidents in a manner that is acceptable to the mission objective.
Special Services Division
This division is responsible for the security and safety of the District/County Courts, Courthouse, grounds, and training of courthouse employees. A Sergeant is the supervisor for those security personnel assigned to him/her on a daily basis.
