Craigslist Scam (Attempted)

The owner of a property in Holmesville, Nebraska spoke with an investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office about an attempted scam via Craigslist.

The land owner had listed a property in Holmesville for sale on Craigslist and was contacted by a suspect who said they were willing to purchase the property, based on the photos. The suspect sent a spurious check for the amount of the property for sale plus an additional 50%. The check was of poor quality and the victim did not attempt to cash the check and did not send the suspects any money.

The victim states one of the clues he picked up on that this was a scam was the suspect e-mailed him stating they were going to have a mover come to pick up the item and have it shipped to them. 

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges resident to use caution in any transactions, whether in person, online, through the mail, or via telephone. If it seems “too good to be true”, be extra cautious.
