Local Chief Deputy Sheriff Graduates the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, Homeland Security Academy

GLYNCO, GEORGIA- Chief Deputy Sheriff Doug Klaus recently received a Certificate of Graduation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) upon completing the Homeland Security Leadership Academy (HSLA) conducted at FLETC, Glynco, Georgia. Attendees included law enforcement executives from over 22 state, local, and territorial police and sheriff agencies.    

The HSLA is a two-week professional development and leadership training program designed for law enforcement executives. It is the result of collaboration between FLETC and the National Sheriffs’ Association. Some of the topics covered included: leadership in a crisis, the art of perception; exemplary leadership; emotional intelligence; ethics in leadership.

Upon completion of the training in Georgia at FLETC, follow-up training was completed in Minneapolis, MN through the National Sheriff’s Association. Upon completion of this training course, Klaus was certified as a Homeland Protection Professional through the Homeland Protection Professional Certification Board/NSA Global Center for Public Safety. The graduates are the first in the United States to receive this certification.

FLETC has a vital mission: to train those who protect our homeland. FLETC is the primary provider of basic and advanced law enforcement training to federal law enforcement agencies, as well as a significant contributor to advanced training for state, local, and international law enforcement officers and agents. 

Since FLETC’s creation in 1970, we have trained over a million law enforcement officers, and, on average, FLETC trains more than 70,000 law enforcement officers each year.  FLETC also collaborates with more than 95 federal Partner Organizations and law enforcement experts worldwide. At FLETC we are a proud to partner with young professionals to help them achieve their goals and advance their careers.

All funding for the FLETC training was provided at no cost to local agencies and included air fare, meals, lodging, etc.
