Details:

A resident of rural Pickrell, Nebraska came to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report a scam. The victim stated he received a phone call the morning of 08-12-2025 and an automated message advised him to “Press l” if he had not made a charge on his account. When he pressed “1”, he was transferred to several different people before finally speaking with a suspect who advised him to go to his bank in Nebraska and withdraw funds to leave a balance of $3,000.00. This would have meant the victim needed to withdraw tens of thousands of dollars in cash. It is unknown what the final step of the fraud would be, however the suspect would most likely inveigle the victim into sending the cash to him through the mail.

The suspect told the victim to drive to the bank and stay on the phone with him. When he arrived at the bank, the suspect told him to take his phone off of “speaker” when he went into the bank. The victim received a photo of a fraudulent identification card of the suspect via text message and was told to immediately delete it. The victim told he would not delete it and the suspect said he was going to sue him

The victim became suspicious and told the suspect he was going to go to the sheriff’s office, at which point the suspect hung up.

There is no monetary loss. The victim was advised to continue to follow-up with his bank.
