Scam I Attempted Fraud 2025-2952
On Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 1:00 pm a resident of Ellis was driving to Beatrice when she received a phone call from a phone number with a 402-area code and a 223 prefix. The female suspect on the other end of the phone conversation told her she was with “Walmart Fraud Department” and there had been a charge of approximately $1,300.00 on her credit card, but did not specify which credit card, and for the victim to “press one” to be connected to their fraud department.
The victim has a relative who works at the Walmart in Beatrice and she was immediately suspicious. She did not press one, provide any personal, financial, or confidential information to the suspect and did not lose any money.
She wanted the sheriff’s office to make the public aware of the incident, so other persons did not fall victim to this type of scam. The sheriff’s office urges people to use caution when dealing with unknown, and especially unsolicited, offers or contacts and people, whether it be on the phone, online, or in person.
Do not provide any information to these suspects. Instead, hang up or discontinue the contact with them and notify your bank, family members or law enforcement.
