GAGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PARTNERS WITH AMAZON TO COMBAT HOLIDAY PACKAGE THEFT •

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BEATRICE, NEBRASKA 12/01/2025-Sheriff Millard (Gus) Gustafson and the Gage County Sheriff’s Office are partnering with Amazon this holiday season to help local residents protect their packages from theft. While this isn’t a unique issue to Amazon, package theft continues to be a concern in our community as more people shop online than ever before.

This initiative is part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the National Sheriffs’ Association to raise awareness on proactive measures customers can take to help prevent porch pirates allowing law enforcement agencies to prioritize emergency calls during the holiday season.

“Package theft not only impacts our residents during what should be a joyful season, but it also strains our limited law enforcement resources,” said Sheriff Gustafson. “When our community members take simple precautions to protect their deliveries, they’re helping us direct our deputies’ time and attention to more serious emergency situations.”

KEEPING YOUR PACKAGES SAFE

In partnership with Amazon, we recommend these effective strategies to prevent package

theft:

  1. Track your packages in real time using Amazon’s Map Tracking feature on com or through the Amazon app to know exactly when deliveries will arrive.
  2. Specify a hidden drop-off location to keep packages out of view by providing delivery instructions through the Amazon app or website.
  3. More than 25,000 package pickup locations are available to customers, allowing them

to conveniently choose how and where their items arrive – whether at home, work, Amazon or a partner location.

  1. Amazon Share Tracking allows you to share tracking details with friends and family so they can pick up your package for you if you’re not home.
  2. Check delivery confirmation photos provided by Amazon to verify where packages were placed.
  3. Same-Day Delivery customers can choose the delivery window that works best for them in select areas where the option is available.

“While the vast majority of packages make it to customers without any issue, we know how frustrating it can be when criminals get in the way,” said Gilad Solnik, Amazon’s Director of Worldwide Security Operations. “Amazon has many features and technology we’ve built into our delivery experience to help keep customers’ packages secure this holiday season and throughout the year.”

If you do experience package theft, we encourage you to:

  1. Report the theft to our Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5221.
  2. Contact Amazon’s Customer Service through the app or website for 24/7 support
  3. Check with neighbors to see if they received your package or witnessed anything suspicious

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to keeping our community safe during the holiday season and throughout the year. By working together with the community arid partners like Amazon, we can reduce theft and ensure a happier holiday season for everyone.
