Two Vehicle Injury Accident

DATE & TIME: September 9, 2021 at 1020 hours

LOCATION: Hwy 41 at 34B spur

OFFENSE: Two Vehicle Injury Accident

CASE #: 2021-3705

On the listed date and time Gage County Deputies along with Adams Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a two vehicle accident. It was determined through the investigation at the scene that Paul Zach 62 of rural Firth was driving a 2005 Chevy Avalanche eastbound Hwy 41. Byron Klauenberg 27 of Sterling was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger westbound Hwy 41. According to Klauenberg, he observed the Avalanche driving eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic.  Klauenberg stopped his vehicle in an effort to avoid a collision with the Avalanche. Zach attempted to avoid the Charger but was unable; causing a collision. 

Both drivers were checked out by Adams Rescue and released on scene with minor injuries.  Seatbelts were in use. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor.

Zach was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol and booked into the Gage County Detention Center, and also cited for open container and driving left of center.
