Suspicious Device Found in Rural Adams Area

DETAILS: 

On 08-12-24 at approximately 1659 Hrs. The Gage County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to a suspicious device located by a property owner in the rural Adams area. The property owner indicated that he had been doing work on the property when he struck the item with his tractor; and he described the item as an artillery round. The responding deputy looked at the item and also concluded that it looked like an artillery shell. NSP bomb squad was contacted and responded to the scene. They also concluded that the item appeared to be an artillery shell. Due to the military nature of the item, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel from the Nebraska Air National Guard were contact and responded to the scene. They confirmed that the item was a military projectile. The item was destroyed in place, and was found to be inert. The item was highly corroded and appeared to have been on the property for some time. It is unknown how the item had come to be on the property.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office or the Nebraska State Patrol if they located a similar or suspicious item. If found to be a potentially dangerous item, it will be destroyed at no cost to the property owner.
