Medicare Scam

DATE & TIME: 05-21-2021 / 11:17 am

LOCATION: Beatrice, Nebraska

OFFENSE: Medicare Scam

CASE #: 2021-1945

A Beatrice resident called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and spoke to and investigator to report she had received numerous phone calls from a suspect with a Hispanic accent who claimed to be from Medicare.  He was attempting to get her to approve or order some medical equipment, but she was aware that this was a scam of some sort because she has read about the fraud and scam reports made to the sheriff’s office in the local media.  She told him she knew it was a scam, however he continued to call repeatedly over the next 24 hours.

She states she has not lost any money; however, she is concerned that he did have her Medicare card number and knew some of her medical history and the fact he was calling on her birthday.

After calling the sheriff’s office she called Medicare and made them aware of the scam perpetrated on her.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens to be cautious and wary of scams and to not provide personal, financial, or confidential information to unknown persons, whether it is over the telephone, online, via social media, or in person.  If you receive this type of contact, do not interact with the suspect and do not succumb to any demand or request for secrecy or urgent action.  Call Southeast Communications at 402-223-4080 and report it to the police department or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222 and ask to speak with an investigator.
