Medicare Scam

LOCATION: Rural Liberty, Nebraska  

OFFENSE: Medicare Scam

A resident of rural Liberty, Nebraska called the Gage County Sheriff’s Office to report she received several phone calls from males with thick foreign accents who claimed to be from the United States government who needed her Medicare information. They informed her that Medicare was switching cards and needed her to provided them with that information.

She believed the callers to be unscrupulous knaves who were attempting to scam her, so she did not provide them with any personal or medical information, however they continued to call her and harangue her about providing information. At this time, she does not report any lost or stolen money regarding this incident.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to use caution when dealing with unknown persons on the telephone, via mail, on the Internet, or in person. Protect your personal, confidential, and financial information from these people who could use it to commit identity theft or even access your financial accounts.

If you suspect a scam or fraud, call the local police department via Southeast Communications at 402-223-4080 or call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5222 and ask to speak with an investigator.
